Porcelain Crowns

Porcelain Crowns are used to restore the enamel layer on front and back teeth that are broken or weakened teeth due to oversized fillings or root canal treatments or fractures and can also be used where teeth are are worn, discoloured, rotated, poorly shaped, cracked.  Porcelain Crowns can be used to correct discolouration, worn teeth, broken teeth, a large cavity, spaced teeth, and crowded teeth.

Indicative Cost of Porcelain Crown: $ 1,995 per tooth

Firstly, when a Porcelain Crown is made, the tooth is prepared to allow for a thin spacing where the Porcelain is to fit around the tooth.  A precise impression is made and the Porcelain Crown is constructed.  When the crown has been made by our dental laboratory, the crown is then brought back to the mouth and bonded into position, covering the tooth to slightly below the gums, replacing the missing enamel.

In recent years, there has been significant technological advances in materials used for crowns.  Smile Artistry™ has invested heavily in offering these new technologies to our patients.

Dental Crowns can take different technological forms, namely:

Emax Crowns

Emax is the new standard for Aesthetic Dentistry. IPS Emax is a Lithium Disilicate Porcelain System which gives not only the best cosmetic and aesthetic properties, but a very high mechanical strength.

EMPRESS™ Pressed Porcelain Crowns

Careful preparation to ensure correct thickness of the pressed superstructure allows the use of these very natural, all porcelain crowns. Our master ceramists then layer the cosmetic colours onto the superstructure to create natural undetectable crowns. In the layering is correct translucencies to give a true natural look.

Zirconia Porcelain Crowns

Zirconia crowns have internal copings milled utilising our  In-Lab CAD-CAM system.  First a model of the tooth is scanned by the high-definition scanner, then the Zirconia Structure is milled utilising computerised diamond cutting burs.  Following milling, the zirconia is fired at a high temperature.  The final stages is the Porcelain layering on the surface, for which gives the crown its natural life-like appearance.  It is a combination of high strength and natural appearing tooth.  Read more about Zirconia Crowns here.

Porcelain Fused to Metal (PFM) Crowns

In cases where teeth are heavily stained, root-filled teeth, or in severe grinding bruxism situations, severely displaced or rotated teeth and for canine bite guidance teeth, we will often utilise traditional PFM Crowns. We utilise porcelain margin technology and the experience of our master ceramists to create, with artistry, life-like natural crowns.
