At Smile Artistry™ we have been placing white fillings for over two decades. Recent advances in materials means that our white fillings are even more cosmetic than before.
Fillings are more natural appearing, more polished and have greater longevity.
Old failing, black metal amalgam restorations only hold potential for future problems within our teeth. Time is showing that old amalgam restorations create stress on the surrounding tooth structure such that teeth crack and break down, or decay leaks underneath these fillings. If treated early, teeth have better long-term prognosis. We are now able to better advise when it is time to replace old metal fillings.
On teeth which have larger holes or cracks, we may recommend using porcelain technology to restore the tooth with either porcelain inlays or onlays or porcelain crowns. This returns significant strength to our teeth and helps to prevent fatal fractures in teeth.
Porcelain onlays will significantly outlast white fillings.
Below is a patient who had fissure decay and an old grey amalgam filling. The teeth were restored with white fillings.
