When can splayed teeth occur?
Splayed Tooth Appearance occurs when front teeth appear to angle outwards, rather than the usual inwards direction. The teeth appears angling outwards and look to be slanted or sloped.
Splaying of teeth can occur because of tongue and speech function, poor periodontal bone health, jaw relationships, habits such as pencil biting as well as other obscure events. This presentation usually results in prominence of upper teeth with overeruption of the lower front teeth higher than the adjacent posterior (back) teeth.
Splaying of the long axis of a tooth can also be considered cosmetically quite unattractive.
